What is most important for you right now is to connect to your own inner light. This will create the biggest opening of all. Trust that you have all of the power within to make this happen, and in order to do that connect to the people and things that bring you a lot of joy. When the mind starts to move into overthinking or fear, shift your attention right away to something bright. It doesn’t matter what has happened in the past or what is happening around us now, you can always make the choice to break free of the wheel of suffering and panic and open up to your own light. We are powerful manifestors , so once you make the choice in the moment to shift your awareness to something good, it will show you in your reality. Be conscious, especially right now of fears coming in from others, and recognize that not everything should be held by you. Laughter is your best medicine, but tears can also be a powerful release. Let go of any judgment you may have around that. Remember that you are never alone, and if you need to be reminded of that ask for support and it will show up. Everything comes down to intention, and even though there are conflicting energies circling around us you must KNOW…It will rebuild. But in order for that to happen, you have to do exactly that. Trust. You have the biggest heart and that is your greatest gift. It’s impossible to always control your surroundings, but when you shift the focus to how you want to feel, everything will conspire to assist you. I love and miss my beautiful family and friends and I can’t wait for the joyful day when we are all able to reunite. Until then please keep your lights on. ?

With a head of golden curly hair, bright blue piercing eyes, and fair skin, social media was surprised about Adonis’ appearance, forgetting that Drake’s mother Sandi Graham is a spitting image of the child. Drake noted the resemblance by posting a picture of his mother along with his father in the series of photos he shared of his son.

Mothered by French model, Sophie Brussaux, the revelation of Drake’s fatherhood was brought about in a rap beef when hip-hop artist, Pusha-T dropped “The Story of Adidon” on YouTube.

The lyrics was a no-holds-bar scathing exposé of ghost-writing rumors, false racial identity, and most notably the fact that Drake could possibly have fathered a child with a “pornstar.”

“Since you named dropped my fiancée/ Let ‘em know who you chose as your Beyonce/ Sophie knows better as your baby mother/ Cleaned her up for IG, but the stench is on her/ A baby’s involved, it’s deeper than rap/ We talkin’ character, let me keep with the facts/ You are hiding a child, let that boy come home/ Deadbeat motha**** playin’ border control, ooh/ Adonis is your son/ And he deserves more than an Adidas press run; that’s real.”

Drake never commented or responded to the diss track, but hinted in songs in his album Scorpion. That Pusha-T’s exposure was actually true.

In his song “Emotionless” he says, “I wasn’t hidin’ my kid from the world, I was hidin’ the world from my kid.”

Drake then directly addressed the beef and his thoughts on Pusha-T’s response on Lebron James’ HBO show The Shop.

“I’m gonna tell you something, I knew something was gonna come up about my kid. They had to add the deadbeat dad thing to make it more appealing, which is fine. The mom and dad thing… Whatever. You don’t even know my family. But wishing death upon my friend [producer Noah “40” Shebib] who has MS… I study rap battles for a living. When you mention defenseless people who are sick in the hospital, who have passed away, I just believe that there’s a price you have to pay for that. It’s over! Someone’s gonna fucking punch you in the fucking face. The shit’s done, the event’s over. I wanted to do other things. I didn’t want to further your career by rapping back to you and having this exchange.”

At the beginning of this month, Drake dropped two new tracks, which were “When to Say When” and “Chicago Freestyle.” In “When to Say When”, Drake referred to Sophie Brussaux in the line, “Baby mama a fluke, but I love her for who she is.”

It seems that now Drake and Sophie are able to co-parent and bring up the 2-year-old together.

Social media distancing is needed to curb anxiety

Social Media Distancing: Protecting Your Mental Health During Chaos

Social media distancing may be the only way some of us can mentally survive the current state of the world. As many of us are getting familiar with the indoors due to social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic, most of us turn to our phones to scroll social media and attempt to take our minds off of the gushing outpour of madness that is happening.

We log on and see the annoying aunt we avoid on Thanksgiving posting conspiracy theories and panic propaganda in the droves. We feel the familiar pit in the center of our stomach grow as the dread of impending anxiety turns into reality. We keep scrolling hoping you will see something funny or a cute kitten video to put us in better spirits, instead we see a friend from high school has posted a strongly worded manifesto about the mishandlings of the government and how the far left or the far right are singlehandedly dismantling the country. Pending anxiety is now turning into a full-fledged panic.

Those of us who suffer from anxiety, panic attacks, depression and/or PTSD have most likely been feeling this a lot lately. Fear and uncertainty are big triggers for some, and the stockpiling of panic information, false news, politicalized debates are weighing heavy on the brains for those of us who overthink or become overloaded with empathic thoughts and feelings.

Staying informed and connected to the world is important as we take this new normal in day-by-day. However, putting yourself first is the number one priority, and to do this practicing healthy social media distancing is key.

Here are some tips on how to enact social media distancing:

Reducing your social media intake to an hour or two a day and giving your brain a break can do wonders for curbing anxiety triggers and rediscovering yourself, the individual.

Find and discover new ways to reconnect with yourself

Yoga, painting, reading a book, meditation, watching a cartoon, writing a list of future goals, and more are all things you can do while taking control of your life and reducing the whirlwind of information being thrown at you daily.

Turn off news notifications

Turn off the news push notifications on your phone. Having headlines thrown at you like hard rocks daily throughout the day can be damaging, limit your news intake to only 30 minutes to an hour a day.

If you have a therapist, continue your routine

If you go to therapy continue your normal therapy routine if possible. Check if your therapist or if any local therapists offer remote therapy sessions and continue your everyday journey of healing even through these times of social distancing.

Set boundaries with loved ones or even strangers

If you see a loved one who is constantly posting theories or information that triggers your anxiety then it is okay to “unfollow” or “unfriend” them for a while until you feel comfortable reconnecting again. You can do this without explanation or if you do explain just explain that although they can post whatever they want for your mental health you have to disengage for a bit.

If loved ones engage in conversation with you that you feel is draining you mentally or making you uncomfortable. You can respectfully explain that to protect your mental welfare you would like to talk about something else or you would like to end the conversation. If they do not understand then this is probably someone you may want to distance yourself from for a bit.

Engage in lighthearted activities

Watch a nostalgic cartoon on sites like DisneyPlus, play a board game on Skype or FaceTime with your friends, or even engage in a solo cooking or baking session. Scrapbook or color in a coloring book. Engage in activities that aren’t so harsh on the brain. Give your thoughts a break.

No matter what you choose to do, know that you deserve mental peace and sometimes social media distancing is the best way to do that.

Harvey Weinstein tests positive for coronavirus while in prison

Harvey Weinstein Tests Positive for Coronavirus

Defamed producer is in isolation

Harvey Weinstein is the second person in a New York-area prison to test positive for coronavirus. The imprisoned movie mogul was diagnosed after being tested, making one of the two people who have knowingly contracted the virus at the prison. The prison houses 961 people, so there may be more people who have the virus. Sources say that Weinstein is no placed in isolation to try to curb the spread of the virus to other people in the prison. Five officers and two prisoners who were in contact with Harvey Weinstein are also being placed in isolation at this time.

This diagnosis comes a little more than a week after Harvey Weinstein was convicted of multiple counts of heinous sex crimes that landed him 23 years in prison.

Although prison officials have not publicly commented on Weinstein’s public diagnosis, sources reveal that although he did test positive, he seems to have no symptoms as of now. This is similar to a majority of the celebrities that are coming out who have tested positive, such as Idris Elba, who else has said that he does not have symptoms.

Harvey Weinstein’s team declines to comment

Weinstein’s legal team will not confirm nor deny whether or not he has tested positive for the coronavirus. In a statement to FOX, they said, “At this time, we will neither confirm nor deny whether Mr. Weinstein has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. While his team is now fully aware of his current medical condition, since Mr. Weinstein executed the proper Dept. of Corrections Healthcare Information Release Form, we are going to continue protecting his privacy and maintain his privacy. As such, we will not discuss this matter any further.”

Rapper 6ix9ine tries to get early  prison release as coronavirus spreads

Most likely in response to Weinstein’s alleged diagnosis, fellow imprisoned rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine is fighting for an early release, citing that he is at high risk for the virus to be fatal because he suffers from shortness of breath. There is currently no word on whether the rapper will be released early.

Pandemic movies to stream now

Pandemic Movies to Stream During Pandemonium

As we are entering into deeper depths of the COVID-19 or coronavirus uncertainty, we are turning to streaming platforms as one of our only sources of entertainment where pandemic movies and related media have been the highest trending subject. On Netflix, the film Contagion has skyrocketed in streams due to the eerily similar circumstances that reflect the details of the pandemic that the Earth is currently going through. So, what are the best pandemic movies to relate to right now? College News gathers the top 5 pandemic movies you can find on streaming sites right this moment.

What are our favorite pandemic movies?

Contagion

As mentioned before, the 2011 film Contagion has never felt so relevant. Starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Laurence Fishburne, and Matt Damon. The film’s tagline “Nothing spreads like fear,” speaks for itself and the current state of the coronavirus media pandemic. We won’t include any spoilers, but the plot is about a woman who goes on a business trip to Hong Kong and comes back feeling lethargic, later dying. After that everyone around the world starts getting mysteriously sick and a journalist begins to investigate the panicked media response. If you are looking for a case of life imitating art then this is it.

Pandemic: How to Prevent An Outbreak

With strangely perfect timing, and as some conspiracy theorists would say, not coincidental—Pandemic: How to Prevent An Outbreak, dropped on Netflix less than a week before the coronavirus pandemic really gained traction. This documentary takes a look at in the past when the deadly influenza virus killed 50-100 million people. Stock footage of people in face masks and mass graves makes you think how bad this could really get and how history can repeat itself. This is definitely a “watch-with-caution” choice among our pandemic movies list.

Streaming On: Netflix

Outbreak

Outbreak was released in 1995, and stars Dustin Hoffman and Morgan Freeman to name a few. In this film we see a dangerous airborne virus that ravages a civilization comes to fruition after a monkey carrying the virus is brought into the US. This outbreak only happens in one town, but there still is a sense of urgency before it spreads elsewhere.

I Am Legend

This classic Will Smith film is a must-see, and shows what can happen when a plague get’s at it’s worst. Believing he is the only man on Earth it shows his day to day survival dealing with these terrible creatures that were past humans and animals taken by the plague. This is one of our pandemic movies that are a classic, but also great for a re-watch or a first watch if you haven’t viewed it yet.

Quarantine

Released in 2008, this film follows a reporter and her cameraman who are called out to a building and investigate an elderly woman who was heard to be screaming. Once they arrive they see the CDC had the place under lockdown and the rest that occurs is pretty terrifying. A great spooky watch if you are into viral horror.

Homemade Hand Sanitizer Recipe Fights Coronavirus

Coronavirus or COVID-19 is running rampant throughout the world, which has caused a shortage of hand sanitizer in the country. Although all health officials stress that the best way to combat bacteria is to wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or more, hand sanitizer is the next best thing on the go. Massive department stores, such as Walmart, Target, and K-Mart, are all running out of sanitizer, which is causing the country to dissent into a frenzied panic which has led to people searching for a reliable homemade hand sanitizer recipe.

This shortage has also resulted in establishments, such as pharmacies to create their own hand sanitizer to release to the public. Even some alcohol distilleries have been doing the public a service by using their resources and alcohol to create hand sanitizer to give out. However, all of these things require interaction with people, which is not suggested at this time.

So, what else you can do? Luckily you can make your very own sanitizer with simple household products. However, it is important to follow instructions carefully in order to not compromise the purity of the sanitizer.

Spray hand sanitizer recipe vs. gel

Now, let’s take a look at the options. There are two main categories of sanitizer you can create. This can be either a gel sanitizer or a spray hand sanitizer.

The first hand sanitizer recipe is the fastest one to make, but is also less effective than the spray counterpart. This one has the consistency of a gel.

You will need:

  • Isopropyl alcohol or high potency alcohol
  • Aloe Vera gel
  • Essential oil

Directions: Mix 3-parts isopropyl alcohol for every 1-part Aloe Vera gel. Use a drop of essential oil to lessen the overwhelming alcohol odor.

Isopropyl alcohol is the best alcohol to use because you will need at least 60 percent alcohol for the hand sanitizer recipe to work.

The next hand sanitizer recipe to combat the coronavirus will be the spray. This recipe is slightly more complicated, but is also more effective against battling harmful bacteria and viruses.

For this you will need:

  • Isopropyl alcohol
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Glycerol
  • Distilled water
  • Spray bottle

Directions: Mix 12 ounces of the alcohol with 2 teaspoons of glycerol, 1 tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide, and three ounces of distilled water.

When it is all mixed together you can put this mixture into a spray bottle, and make your way to fighting the Coronavirus one spray at a time. Always check with your local health resources before making your own hand sanitizer recipe and ensure that you are always using sanitized materials to create it.

Idris Elba is Latest Coronavirus Victim

Idris Elba is the latest celebrity to share that he has tested positive for the coronavirus. The 47-year-old English actor took to Instagram in a video with his wife, Sabrina Dhowre Elba to explain that he did test positive for COVID 19.

“I feel ok”, Idris Elba Says

He explained, “I feel OK. I have no symptoms so far but have been isolated since I found out about my possible exposure to the virus.” He added, “Stay home people and be pragmatic. I will keep you updated on how I am doing No panic.”

Elba might have contracted from Prime Minster Trudeau’s wife

He found out about the diagnosis on Monday morning, and revealed that he had been exposed to someone who had tested positive for the virus as well. On March 4 Idris Elba had an appearance at the WE Day 2020 Event in London where he posed with a picture with Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, the wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Her positive test was revealed last week.

Although his wife was by his side in the video he posted, he revealed that she is feeling okay and has not yet been tested for the virus.

He touched on the need for solidarity and thinking of others in the time of crisis. “Look we live in a divided world right now…but this is the time for solidarity. Now is a time for thinking about each other. There are so many people whose lives have been affected.”

Tom Hanks gave update on his coronavirus contraction

Idris isn’t the first actor to be met with a positive test for the coronavirus in Hollywood. Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson both tested positive for the virus and have been on isolation ever since.

In a Sunday Instagram post on Tom Hanks page he wrote, “Thanks to the Helpers. Let’s take care of ourselves and each other.”

United States is largely behind in worldwide containment

As the future of the coronavirus and health measures unfold across the country. We find Illinois, Ohio, and New York are all following protocols to close all bars and restaurants to dine-in patrons.

The United States has been criticized on the slow response to the coronavirus pandemic and many are worried that a lot more people are positive for the virus, as testing has barely begun.

With Italy, France, Denmark, South Korea, China, and most recently Puerto Rico, on forms of lock-down it wouldn’t be surprising if the US followed suit in the coming week.

Alvin Ailey Revealed review

Alvin Ailey: Transformative Art Through Storytelling

Alvin Ailey didn’t ask for a seat at the table after realizing African Americans were the trees that the table was created from. African Americans aren’t just the blueprints for expression through art, the African American experience is expressionism and in 1958 he brought black expressionism through the medium of dance to the forefront with the creation of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

Black expressionism through the most authentic lens

In 2020, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater has become a major staple in not only the dance community, but also the modernized art community as a whole. Shaping the precedent for modern dance since his iconic performance “Revelations”, Ailey has been a name on the tip of every dance connoisseurs tongue, not only in New York but across the planet. Traveling the world for the 2020 tour, Ailey Revealed. The dance company broke Ailey Revealed into three acts with two intermissions.

One of the standout pieces was “Ode”. With choreography straight from the mind of Jamar Roberts, this emotionally driven piece focused on innocent victims of gun violence. The dancers depicting harsh but swift movements and minimalistic backdrops with low lighting evoke emotion and reflective thoughts. Costumes were minimal with the muscular male dancers clothed in simple linen pants.

Experimentalism with a story

The most experimental piece within Ailey Revealed was the memorable, conversation-starter, “Greenwood.” This avant-garde expression of a tragic event could have a slew of different interpretations due to the harsh imagery and idealized choreography. However, Donald Byrd’s vision was a portrayal of a little known racially motivated massacre in the Greenwood District in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This area had a reputation as being one of the most affluent African American communities in the country and that was all changed on May 30, 1921 when an African American was arrested for attempted assault on a teenage white girl in an elevator.

No one knew what actually happened in the elevator, but after a newspaper reported the incident a massive white mob went to the neighborhood and viciously killed at least 300 black people and burned the neighborhood leaving another 10,000 black people homeless.

The instrumental rattled with hurtling synths that thundered and crashed as dancers in metallic full body costumes with mesh coverings collided and thrashed with the manic sounds. Sarah Daley-Perdomo and Vernard J. Gillmore portrayed the two people in the incident with them performing each scenario that could have happened in the elevator. The creak of a door closing indicated the transition to another scenario with each one getting more frenzied and manic in the imagining of a completely unknown event.

Although the incident may not have been known nor recognized due to the interpretive nature and presentation of the performance, art is meant to incite thought and plant a seed of curiosity, which is exactly what this piece accomplished. However, the portrayal of the mob could have been made a bit clearer through costumer, Doris Black’s vision.

Full circle to Alvin Ailey’s original vision

The show’s finale was a reworking of Alvin Ailey’s original vision for his legendary piece “Revelations.” Fast-paced choreography to upbeat versions of historical spirituals was seen in the three dance scenes with “Pilgrim of Sorrow”, “Take Me To the Water”, and “Move, Members, Move”. “Pilgrim of Sorrow” had a gorgeous number in “Fix Me, Jesus” with elongated lines and symmetrical emotionally powered choreography dueling between Sarah Daley-Perdomo and Jamar Roberts.

Although this piece was most likely put at the end to show the roots of Alvin Ailey’s powerhouse company, I think it would have been more effective to begin the entire show with “Revelations” and show the progression and transformation of the company after his vision was cemented.

Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years

Harvey Weinstein Doesn’t Have a Harsh Sentence

Harvey Weinstein will be spending the next 23 years in a prison cell after a judge ruled that the defamed Hollywood producer would answer to his eternal wrongs. #MeToo rang through the hearts of women everywhere when the hashtag originally curated by sexual assault survivor and activist Tarana Burke sprang into action in October 2017 when Alyssa Milano came forward with her story against Harvey Weinstein.

Sexual crime survivors receive life sentences

As the allegations unfolded, Weinstein’s massive film empire crumbled before him. On February 24, Weinstein was convicted of a Criminal Sexual Act in the first degree and third-degree rape.

Although the high-profile status of the victims garnered a lot of attention, there are a lot of sexual assault and rape survivors that do not receive this type of retribution in the form of conviction of their assaulters.

Weinstein’s attorney, Donna Rotunno expressed her disgust at the sentencing. “Of course it’s too harsh. It’s ridiculous,” she said. “That number was obnoxious. There are murderers who will get out of court faster than Harvey Weinstein will. That number spoke to the pressures of movements in the public, that number did not speak to the evidence that came out in trial. That number did not speak to the testimony that we heard. That number did not speak to the evidence, nor did it speak to justice.”

However, the survivors have a lifelong sentence of having to constantly relive what they went through and what was taken from them from an individual who had a god, or should I say devil complex in the entertainment industry.

Nathaniel Woods received the harshest sentence

A harsh execution was the government-initiated murder of Nathaniel Woods who died by lethal injection in Alabama even though prosecutors agreed that he never actually murdered anyone. This was a harsh sentence that he can never come back from.

Time’s up for sexual predators like Harvey Weinstein

These women who were affected by the reign of terror enacted by Harvey Weinstein will hopefully begin to gain a sense of peace knowing he has been convicted. In a statement released by Tina Tchen, president and CEO of the Time’s Up Foundation, said, “First and foremost, we are grateful for the courage and strength of Mimi Haleyi, Jessica Mann, Annabella Sciorra, Dawn Dunning, Tarale Wulff, and Lauren Young who bravely testified in court, and we remain in solidarity with over 100 survivors who suffered abuse, harassment, and rape at the hands of Harvey Weinstein. The trauma of sexual assault and harassment is lifelong—we can only hope that today’s sentence brings all the survivors of Harvey Weinstein some measure of peace.”

The statement also read: “We also hope that these women take pride in knowing the impact they had on our culture at large. Whether by inspiring more survivors to come forward and seek help, changing how the justice system responds to sexual violence, or leading corporate boards to hold more CEOs accountable for toxic workplace culture, the social change catalyzed by these survivors has been nothing transformational.”

A lifetime of PTSD outweighs 23 years

Twenty-three years is nothing compared to a lifetime of PTSD, self-doubt, power struggles, and emotional destruction that countless women have to endure throughout a lifetime. I’m sure the man who lost his life for only being involved in a crime would have much preferred 23 years than an irreversible injection given by the state of Alabama.

Hopefully, Weinstein will spend his time in confinement thinking about how he stripped countless women of their bodies and dignity as he is locked in a cell.

Justin Bieber downsizes tour due to low ticket sales

Justin Bieber Downsizes Tour Due to Low Sales

Justin Bieber is making some changes to his upcoming tour by downsizing to smaller venues. Dubbed The Changes tour, Justin Bieber had 45 dates set for the tour and was set to begin May 14 in Seattle. Out of the 45 dates, eight of the shows were downsized to smaller venues due to “unforeseen circumstances”

Low ticket sales may be due to long hiatus

These unforeseen circumstances are most likely lower than expected ticket sales. Before Justin Bieber’s album Changes, his last album Purpose was released almost five years ago. Where most people have the momentum to sustain a successful comeback, some pop stars do not translate well to new generations after taking long hiatuses.

Justin Bieber called for help streaming “Yummy”

When the first single from the album was released, Bieber posted videos and social media reposts from fans asking people to create a playlist on a streaming service like Spotify and put the song “Yummy” on repeat and stream it while they were sleeping in an effort inflate streaming numbers. Although the post was deleted it gave insight on the current desperation pop stars have when the spotlight on them dims.

The song ended up losing to Roddy Rich’s “The Box”, which Justin Bieber cautiously congratulated the rap star on Twitter.

Although Bieber may not be getting traction to his concerts due to dwindling popularity, the lack of sales might also be due to the coronavirus mayhem that the world is currently experiencing. With Ultra Music Festival, South by Southwest (SXSW), and now Coachella postponing their events it is also highly likely that ticket sales are low due to health fears.

Despite the venue changes, it is possible that the tour could experience entire cancellations with the ensuing coronavirus panic. Although eight venues have changes, the remaining venues will stay at the original arenas for now.

Ultra Music Festival canceled due to coronavirus

Ultra Music Festival & SXSW Canceled From Coronavirus

The largest electronic music festival in North America, Ultra Music Festival, has been canceled until further notice due to the coronavirus scare. Scheduled to have kicked off from March 20th through the 22nd, Miami’s elected leaders and high-ranking Ultra Music Festival representatives came to the monumental decision Wednesday morning.

Ultra Music Festival is a legendary staple for music fans and normally draws crowds upwards of 100,000 people. This year boasted a star-studded lineup of EDM powerhouses, such as David Guetta, Kygo, Major Lazer, Above & Beyond, DJ Snake, and Afrojack.

The performers had less than stellar reactions on Twitter about the cancellation news, as this is a festival that EDM performers look forward to all year. DJ, Gareth Emery expressed that although the festival is canceled, he still would be coming to Miami that weekend to play a set at an undisclosed location.

Other DJs seemed to follow the same sentiment with Juan and Gabriel & Dresden explaining that they would also be performing during Ultra Music Festival weekend despite the cancellation.

Another big event, South By Southwest or better known as SXSW announced on Friday that they would be canceling their festival due to coronavirus precautions. Based in Austin, Texas, the music festival was a big draw to the Austin-area each year, with over 160,000 attendees. SXSW was a big boost for the Texan economy due to the festival pumping in almost $300 million dollars.

With these two music festivals being the biggest ones to happen in March, there may be other music festivals and large-scale events at risk of cancellation. One of the biggest music festivals of the year slated to happen for two weekends in April is Coachella. On Sunday, Riverside County in California declared an official local public health emergency due to the first case of coronavirus that was locally required. Since this is the area where Coachella occurs, the future of the festival in 2020 looks grimmer.

What will happen with Coachella and any other upcoming high-profile event remains to be seen, but for now it is best to keep a lookout and see how things work out.
