Zimmerman Not Wounded
Lake Mary, FL – George Zimmerman is in the news again. Zimmerman, who was acquitted for the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, back in 2013, was shot at himself, by a Florida motorist, police say. The man that police say shot at Zimmerman, is Matthew Apperson. Although details are sketchy, it is rumored that the two men have had an ongoing dispute. Apperson called the police on Zimmerman last year, to report that he’d felt threatened by Zimmerman.
According to Zimmerman’s lawyer, Don West, he told CNN that Apperson was behind Zimmerman, flashing his lights, honking the horn, and then once Zimmerman had stopped, Apperson pulled beside Zimmerman and began shouting obscenities. Zimmerman was in the process of raising his window, when Apperson shot at him. Although the shot had missed Zimmerman’s head, he was struck by breaking glass.
At a nearby business, employee Ken Cornell had just returned from lunch when Apperson drove up, and began shouting that he’d shot George Zimmerman because he’d waived a gun, and that he needed to have Cornell call 911. Apperson’s attorney, Mark NeJame said that what had happened between Apperson and Zimmerman was legally justified and that his client had acted in self-defense.
Zimmerman, who no longer lives in Central Florida, was in town for Mother’s Day and on his way to a doctor’s appointment, when the incident occurred. The shooting occurred along a section of Lake Mary Boulevard. The Lake Mary Police Department tweeted that it was “responding to a shooting involving George Zimmerman.” TV news images showed what looked to be a single bullet hole in the passenger side window of a pickup truck that’s said to be Zimmerman’s.
